Days of Our Lives’ New Schemer ‘Didn’t Match This Character Description’… and Yet! — Plus, Watch Her Audition
Days of Our Lives’ new troublemaker Melinda Michael was actually pretty sure that she wouldn’t get cast as Vivian’s henchwoman Renata. “My goal” in even trying out, she Instagrammed, “was to ‘book the room’ — it was my first time auditioning for this casting office, so I wanted to make a strong enough impression to be brought back for a different role, as I didn’t match much of this character description.
“But,” she added, “sometimes, the vision changes.”
And in this case, for the better. What presence Michael has in the part; she gives classic soap supervillain vibes. (Watch her audition here.) So her advice to other hopefuls who are skeptical of their chances is to “keep on leading with your own version of excellence, a sense of fun, heaps of faith, discipline and courage, and watch life make rewrites for you.”
Since Michael started taping, she’s quickly noticed that “working on a soap opera is a rush!” she exclaimed. “Knowing you only get one take?! Better nail it. I had to lean so much on my prep because 1) I only got my script the night before I was shooting, and 2) that same day, I was an anxious wreck because of a massive technology breach and had to cancel all my credit cards.
“Thank you to my partner at the time who helped me and ran lines again and again before filming,” she continued, “and to my girlie Elsa Ames for accent approval.”
Where will the future take Renata? Fingers crossed the answer to that one is all the way to Salem from Alamainia and a dangerous liaison with fellow schemer EJ.
