High Potential will be back on the case — but not for a little while.
The ABC drama stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory, a quirky cleaning woman-turned-crime solver, who helps the Los Angeles Police Department solve murders.
High Potential, which premiered in September 2024, was a breakout hit, finishing its first season as “ABC’s most-watched new series” in seven years, since The Good Doctor in the 2017-2018 TV season, per Deadline.
The ratings continued to ramp up when the series returned for season 2 in September 2025. According to ABC, by the end of October, it had become “television’s No. 1 entertainment series this season” over a one-week viewing period, garnering 7.62 million total viewers.
So is High Potential on tonight? Here’s everything to know about when new episodes will air again.

No, there is not a new High Potential on tonight, Nov. 11, because it’s on a midseason break.
Instead, ABC will be airing a special edition of 20/20 celebrating the 40th anniversary of the classic sitcom, The Golden Girls. It will air in High Potential‘s usual time slot of 10 p.m. ET.
“The special chronicles the making of The Golden Girls, from its early inception and pilot episode to becoming one of the most treasured shows in television history,” a press release reads.
The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship will also include new interviews with series creator Susan Harris, executive producer Tony Thomas and director Terry Hughes, along with “rarely seen behind-the-scenes footage of rehearsals, outtakes and camaraderie on set.”
The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship – Special Edition of 20/20 will be preceded by a two-hour episode of Dancing with the Stars, celebrating the competition series’ 20th anniversary.
According to TV Guide, it has not been announced what will air during the 10 p.m. time slot next week, on Nov. 18.
When is High Potential returning with new episodes?

High Potential will return with new episodes on Jan. 6 after its midseason break.
Will Trent and The Rookie are also premiering new episodes that night, kicking off seasons 4 and 8, respectively.
Other ABC series returning that week of January 2026 include America’s Funniest Home Videos, Shifting Gears, Abbott Elementary, Shark Tank, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville, Grey’s Anatomy and more.
“Across ABC and its streaming home on Hulu, we have the best shows on television, from acclaimed dramas to standout comedies and unscripted hits,” Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, said in a statement.
He continued, “Our midseason schedule underscores our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional storytelling and engaging content to audiences wherever they choose to watch.”
How many episodes are left in High Potential season 2?

High Potential season 2 will consist of a total of 18 episodes, according to TVLine.
As of Oct. 28, there have been seven episodes, so there are 11 left in the season.
The first season had 13 episodes, and as showrunner Todd Harthan told TVLine in September 2025, the upped episode count allows “the luxury of more real estate” with the series being able to “lean into some of the other great cast members we have.”
In addition to spotlighting more of the supporting ensemble, Harthan teased that the second half of season 2 is going to feature “some huge guest stars … that are gonna be splashy and fun and interesting,” as he told Deadline in October 2025.
“I think we just cracked the code on how we’re gonna end the season, which I also am very excited about,” Harthan continued. “I’m just super jazzed about what we have to come. I think it’s gonna be hopefully really exciting and satisfying. I don’t want to let the audience down, man. I like this day job.”
In June 2025, when looking ahead to season 2, Olson told Deadline she wanted to have “really fun, dramatic stuff, and I want to have really funny moments and explore relationships.”
“I think it’s important to dive deeper into the other characters on the show. We didn’t have the opportunity to do that as much as I think we should,” she added. “And so we’re going to definitely be digging in there, too.”
