Morgan’s Mortal Enemy Will Wreak More Havoc In High Potential Season 2

High Potential’s highly-anticipated season 2 will delve deeper into the first season’s most fearsome villain. Genius protagonist Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) may have consulted the LAPD Major Crimes Unit throughout High Potential’s exciting cases, but there were limits to her impressive intellect. Despite becoming an invaluable member of the team, Morgan’s crime-solving streak eventually came to a highly climactic end.

The ending of High Potential season 1 left plenty of unfinished business for Morgan, her coworkers, and her family, but one threat stood above the rest. David Giuntoli played the final antagonist of the season, a serial kidnapper known only as David. Aside from his terrifying and twisted M.O., David was the only criminal to evade capture in High Potential.

By escaping Morgan and the rest of the LAPD, David immediately earned a rematch with the intrepid team of detectives. Yet, given how David Giuntoli is listed as a recurring cast member of High Potential season 2, the game master’s return won’t be simple. Instead, David may become an unnerving, underlying presence of the hit procedural’s sophomore year.

Whether David’s plan in High Potential season 2 will affect Morgan alone or bring her loved ones into the crossfire, the criminal— who has already nearly claimed the life of Lev “Oz” Ozdil (Deniz Akdeniz)— will surely make more than one appearance. From sneakily stalking to outright taunting, there are many ways David can linger in High Potential season 2.

Furthermore, High Potential season 2 can give the character some much-needed depth by fleshing out his backstory and his possible connection to Morgan. Plenty of theories have arisen regarding David’s real identity in High Potential, ranging from a pure psychopath to Morgan’s secret half-brother. Since Giuntoli’s role will recur, the truth will come out sometime in High Potential season 2.

Why Game Master Challenging Morgan Is Good For High Potential

Regardless of whether he’s a relative or perfect stranger, David’s fixation on Morgan will push her to her limit— which is exactly what High Potential needs. Olson’s hero was a force of nature throughout ABC’s best new drama of 2024, but nobody can be infallible. By giving Morgan a worthy foe, High Potential is setting itself up for long-term success.

The entire Major Crimes Unit will be tirelessly searching for the one that got away, but it’s clear the final showdown will be between Morgan and David— and it shouldn’t be an easy win. Of course, good will always prevail in the end, but Morgan and High Potential would both benefit from a bit of healthy competition.
