Why ‘Big Brother’ Could be On Verge Of Cancellation

Big Brother has been one of the most beloved reality TV shows for many years now. However, based on recent ratings, it seems fans are falling out of love with the show. The viewership numbers are down for various reasons. The question on many fans minds now is how much longer the show will last.
Here is what you need to know about Big Brother and its future.
How Bad Is Big Brother‘s Ratings?
Big Brother has always been a popular reality TV game show. Its main episodes have always gotten good ratings, and its live feeds remain popular. However, there have been changes lately that have caused some fans to turn away. This includes the live feeds becoming a little more restrictive lately.

Big Brother has started to drop in viewership totals over the past few years. While some point out that all shows have dropped as people ditch cable for streaming options, shows like Survivor and The Traitors continue to bring in large viewing totals. The last few seasons have seen the worst viewership totals in the show’s history.
It seems that the last time that Big Brother brought in big numbers was in 2019. That season, the reality TV show averaged 4.26 million viewers (via TV Series Finale). That was seen as a disappointing number at the time since the show averaged six million viewers in the 2010s.
While The Amazing Race still brings in six million viewers an episode, Big Brother only averaged 2.73 million last season. Those totals stand as the lowest in the show’s history.
Is Big Brother Going To Get Canceled?
The ratings remain concerning. However, the truth is that 2.5 million viewers remain good for most cable networks in today’s world of cord-cutting. However, the problem is that this show has to compete with its rival reality TV shows, and for network television, they are way too low to justify the money put into the series.

Love Island USA was moved off network television and put strictly on streaming when its numbers began to fall compared to its UK version of the show. With Big Brother already tied to streaming with the live streams, dropping viewership totals could convince the network to move it over to streaming and possibly cut costs as well.
The biggest problem with Big Brother compared to shows like Survivor is that the seasons are usually the same format. While there are changes – like the AI room last season – it isn’t a big enough change. Many fans might feel they have already seen it all. If the show wants to survive, it might need to make some big changes to the format at the risk of alienating hardcore fans.
